Hello All,

Your kiddos had SO MUCH FUN this past Tuesday.  I told some of them that I would send home the "recipes" for our fun in case you wanted to play over the holiday break.

First we made reindeer "toothpaste".  Simply another name for Elephant Toothpaste if you have done that.  You use approx. 1/2 c. Hydrogen Peroxide (6%-12%) purchase from a beauty supply store, big squirt dawn dish detergent and a couple of drops of food color (optional).  Gently swish these around in a bottle with a narrow neck.  DO NOT SHAKE...Then mix 1 tsp yeast with warm water to get it to bloom.  Let it mix for a little while and bloom nicely (a couple of minutes).  Then pour the yeast mixture into the bottle and stand back while your toothpaste grows!  This is an exothermic reaction and you will be able to feel the heat given off through the bottle!  Additionally, you can play with the toothpaste to your heart's content.  It is simply lots of bubbles filled with oxygen, water, food color and yeast.

Second, we made Oobleck, a Newtonian fluid.  I am sure many of you have done this, but it is super duper cool.  Use 2 parts cornstarch to 1 part water and mix away.  This material will be solid when you put pressure on it will flow as a fluid when you break it up!  The kiddos had a blast!  So many ways to experiment and play with Oobleck!

Anyway, there you go!
I hope everyone has a wonderful holiday!
Warmest regards and Merry Christmas to All!
Vonda
