BU08 Rec. Premier All-Stars: Finalists at Commissioner’s Cup and Mesa
Commissioner’s Cup: 12/5 – 12/6
Congratulations to Coaches Eric and Nicole Mai and the Vista Storm
Boys U8 Recreational Premier All-Star Team for an exciting Finalist
finish at the 2015 Cal South Commissioner’s Cup in Escondido. The boys
won hard fought battles against Valley Center and Scripps Ranch but fell
to a strong Escondido team in the championship game.
The boys are looking forward to continuing the fun at this year’s Mesa All-Star Tournament on December 12-13.

Mesa All Star Tournament: 12/12 – 12/13
After placing second in last week’s Cal South Commissioner’s Cup, the
Vista Storm Boys U8 Premier All-Stars continued their strong play at
the 31st annual Mesa All-Star Tournament on December 12-13. In their
bracket, the boys had wins over Mesa (2-0), Rancho Santa Fe (1-0) and 4S
Ranch (3-0). The only goal allowed came in a 0-1 loss to Del Mark
Sharks Blue.
Faced with single elimination format on Sunday, the Storm boys “activated their superpowers” with a strong 3-0 win over a second team from Rancho Santa Fe. In semi-finals, the boys faced a strong Del Mar Sharks Gold team in a game that was to be decided by penalty kicks. Amazing penalty shots by several Storm players and big saves by goalie Kaio Passos (aka “Spider-Man”) sent the Storm boys to to the Championships against the only team to score against them – Del Mar Blue.
Storm pulled ahead early on a direct kick by striker Noel Garcia, only to have Del Mar tie the game 1-1 before halftime. At that point both teams’ defense dug in and simply refused to allow another point. Still tied at the end of regulation, the boys played two 10-minute overtime periods as the rain started to fall in the darkness. Neither team would falter defensively in overtime. In the pouring rain, the Storm boys finally fell to Del Mar in penalty kicks.
Coaches Eric and Nicole Mai are extremely proud of each and every Storm all-star for playing with heart and a great attitude throughout the all-star season.
