elementary school security tightens

Dear Lake Families,

There is nothing more important to us than the safety of our students. To ensure the smooth implementation of safe practices here at Lake, we believe it is important to communicate with you as we begin a new year. You may walk your child to class on the first day to take pictures and say your goodbyes. We will follow safety protocol below beginning Tuesday August 19th.

Our district wide emphasis on school safety includes the following:

  • Before and after school, only students and staff will be allowed inside the campus perimeter.

  • Parents can access staff, as they normally would, via the sign-in/sign-out procedure in the office for meetings, volunteer work and other routine needs. Please look for visitor scanner coming soon!

  • While in session, school perimeters will be secured.

  • During arrival and dismissal, one front gate and our kindergarten gate will be open and supervised.

  • Employees and registered visitors will wear badges at all times.

  • Students shall be released during the school day only to the custody of an adult in possession of a valid, government issued photo identification card and if:

    • The adult is the student’s custodial parent/guardian

    • The adult has been authorized on the student’s emergency card as someone to whom the student may be released and the custodial parent/guardian has given written authorization for student release

    • The adult has been authorized on the student’s emergency card and the custodial parent/guardian cannot be reached, after the principal or designee verifies the adult’s identity

  • If a change in the pick-up procedure for a student is needed during the instructional day the office will need to verify the parent/guardian contact by a return telephone call to the contact number on file with the school office.

We want to thank our community for sharing this value of safety as they are for the benefit of our students, staff and parents.

Sincerely,

Krista Berntsen

Principal

Lake Elementary School
